AI, MCP and editors

Ask about your game in plain words in shipLua, or from Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Codex while you write Luau.

The assistant in shipLua

The assistant answers with numbers it fetched from your data, and says where they came from, the date range and how fresh they are. It can explain a change and propose tasks or experiments. People approve anything that would affect players.

Things to ask
How did day 1 retention change after our last update?
Where do new players drop out of the tutorial?
Propose an A/B test to improve the shop conversion.
Which game passes earned the most this month?

Your editor, through MCP

Settings > Studio, under AI tools, creates a personal token and shows the one-line setup for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Codex. The same tools are available there: studio context, tasks, Guardian findings, game metrics, analytics queries, funnels, retention, anomalies and experiments. A read token only reads; a drafting token can also propose tasks and draft experiments for a person to accept.

Set it up

  1. In shipLua, open Settings > Studio and, under AI tools, create a personal token. Pick read-only, or drafting if the agent should propose tasks, events and experiments.
  2. Copy the one-line setup for your agent and run it in your terminal, or paste it into your editor’s MCP settings.
  3. Ask in plain words. The agent chooses the tools; you can also name one, for example “use get_retention for the last 28 days”.

The tools

Understand your numbers

get_game_metrics, get_retention, get_funnel, draft_funnel, query_analytics, list_anomalies, get_player_feedback

Judge an update

get_release_impact, compare_similar_games, get_experiment_results, show_chart

Plan the next one

draft_event_plan, draft_task, propose_experiment, plan_experiment

Know your studio

get_briefing, list_tasks, list_releases, get_project_context

Drafting tools need a drafting token and a developer role. Everything they make waits in shipLua for a person to accept it. Tokens can be revoked at any time.

Studio and Rojo workflows

  • The shipLua Studio plugin signs in with a code from the web app and sends scripts for review from inside Studio.
  • Rojo projects can be uploaded as a folder for Guardian audits, and the SDK installs with Wally or Rojo.
